Asheville area and the Last Buffalo (8/15-8/16/05)

We stayed at Camp Fire lodging in the Asheville area, this campground was clean with great views (see link : http://www.campfirelodgings.com/index.html)

This put us in position to see the Biltmore Estate in Asheville and hit the Blue Ridge Parkway afetr that. The Biltmor Estate in unbelievable in scale and granduer. It is hard to believe that one man built this for his vacation retreat, check out the webiste here http://www.biltmore.com/

The Blue Ridge Parkway runs through North Carolina and Virginia (meets up with Skyline Drive in Shenendoah National Park.. known as America's Favorite Drive). Teh speed limit is 45 mph, and that is fast enough when driving an RV as you want to take the blind turns a bit slow since you are often at the edge of a cliff. This all makes for some unbelievable views... one after the other. It seems like the mountains, righes, knobs, gaps and valleys never end.

Sadly there will be no more views of Buffalo roaming the land anymore since an early settler took care of the last one in 1799.
