Stone Mountain, GA (8/15/05)

Stone Mountain( Georgia) Family Campground ( see more info here http://www.stonemountainpark.com/faq/) was just outside Atlanta and across the lake from Stone Mountain Lift ride and park grounds. We spent the day there and started with a sky ride up to the top of Stone Mountain and a 1.3 mile hike down the mountain to a theme park. The mountain is the largest granite outcropping in the world and has the largest relief carving on it. The Memorial Carving depicts three Confederate heroes of the Civil War: Confederate President Jefferson Davis, General Robert E. Lee and Lt. General Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson . Here is Jeffrey and Michele with Atlanta behind them in the haze.
Billy and Jeffrey both succesfully climb a rock wall for the first time... here they are ringing the bell at the top.

The park also had a girl versus boys tree house among other fun stuff to do. This was a great place for some outside fun. They also had smoked turkey legs... see Michele below proudly holding her turkey leg as the boyz show off their hand puppets from the Okefenokee swamp.

We ended the day with dinner at the Stone Mountain Inn Restaurant which was a southern style buffet. I must say for buffet food it was good.. really did taste like homemade bbq chicken, collared greens, sweet potato pie, etc... Then we layed out on our blanket in the open fields by the relief carving for the nightly FREE laser show(they say it is the largest laser show in the world). The entire show is put to music and is honors Georgia's confederate past and patriotic present.

That's Cruisin Cuisine for today.
